RPCS3 Update Boosts PS3 Emulation Performance On Arm-Powered Handhelds
Following an extensive, six-month optimization run on the PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3, developer Whatcookie is showing off the Arm branch's massive improvements on the previous-gen Ayn Odin 2 handheld, and the results are impressive. The performance improvement with the latest mainline RPCS3 patch is in the 60% range, while running 25% more efficiently per-watt, which translate directly into smoother gameplay and better battery life.
This RPCS3 on Arm update makes numerous games, including Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (pictured above), playable on the Odin 2, when previously they were not. While the Ayn Odin 2 still seems to be slower than a real PlayStation 3, the framerate is now high enough to offer a good experience.
