Ransom Payments Surge 176% to $1.88M: Coveware Report

Coveware by Veeam®, a leading authority in ransomware response and cyber extortion trends, today released its Q2 2026 ransomware report, which found the average ransom payment rose 176% from the previous quarter to $1.88 million. The increase was driven by a small number of large data-theft extortion cases involving law firms and other organizations with highly sensitive data. At the same time, the share of victims choosing to pay fell to a record low, and the median payment dropped 50% to $150,000.

For Indian organizations, the findings arrive as cyber incidents face greater operational, reputational and regulatory scrutiny.
