QR Codes Explained
The QR code was invented in 1994 by Denso, a Toyota parts supplier with a simple goal: make its vehicle production lines more efficient. The idea was to replace traditional barcodes with something that could hold far more information and be scanned faster.
It took nearly a decade for QR codes to escape the factory floor, first in Japan through camera phones, and more than 20 years to really catch on elsewhere.
These days QR codes are everywhere. We use them to join Wi-Fi networks, log into websites and messaging apps, share contact information, make mobile payments, activate eSIMs, and carry plane and train tickets on our phones.
