Pulling the power cord on a Raspberry Pi without a proper shutdown is a really bad idea. Whether it's running Home Assistant, a NAS, a 3D printer controller, or an edge AI application, losing power unexpectedly can corrupt an SD card or interrupt writes in progress. Geekworm's new Supercapacitor UPS HAT protects against this situation in a somewhat unusual way. Instead of relying on rechargeable lithium batteries, it uses a bank of supercapacitors to keep the computer alive just long enough to shut down cleanly.

The board is available with 22F, 60F, or 100F supercapacitors and is designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5. It delivers anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes of backup power depending on system load. The largest 100F model can power a fully loaded Raspberry Pi at 5A for about nine seconds, while lighter workloads stretch that to over three minutes.
