Proofpoint Adds Intent-Based Detection To Its Agentic Security System

Proofpoint has announced a new Agentic Collaboration Security system that uses intent-based detection and AI agents to identify threats that can resemble legitimate business activity. The system is designed to analyze the context and intent behind interactions across email, collaboration platforms, and browsers, rather than relying only on behavioral anomalies.

The announcement was made at Proofpoint Protect 2026 in San Diego on September 23. Proofpoint said the system combines its Knowledge Graph with a new Nexus Intent-Based Detection Model and agentic capabilities for threat investigation, user protection, and browser security.

The development comes as attackers increasingly exploit trusted relationships and existing workflows. A compromised supplier, for example, can be used to continue an existing email conversation, while fraudulent payment requests can appear consistent with established business relationships.
