It feels like half of the reviews I do for TechRadar are of open earbuds, a relatively new form of listening gear that won't block your ear canals, leaving them free hear your surroundings. I'm not the only one who's been preoccupied with them though; it's becoming clear that they're the new big category in the headphone world.
According to fresh data from global technology analyst Omdia, the open earbuds market has been booming, increasing in sales by 12% in the year leading up to the second quarter of 2026. That's despite the overall wireless earbuds market dropping by about 2% in that time, now making up 13.5% of all sales of true wireless stereo (TWS) products.
