The Alonso era got off to a winning start when the Blues were made to work hard for a 3-2 win in Monday’s West London derby against Fulham. Chelsea followed up that victory with an EFL Cup win over League One Luton in a match that saw veteran striker Danny Welbeck score his first goal for the club.
It’s also been a productive week for the visitors, with Brighton beating Aston Villa 4-0 in its EPL opener last weekend. The Seagulls also confirmed their place in the next round of the Europa Conference League with a comfortable 4-0 aggregate victory over Norwegian side Tromso in midweek.
