PM E-DRIVE Scheme Supports 26.59 Lakh EV Sales, Extended Until March 2028
The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme has supported 26.59 lakh electric vehicle (EV) sales as of June 2026, the Ministry of Heavy Industries said on October 1, 2026. The scheme will now run until March 31, 2028, with its total outlay increased to ₹11,900 crore.
The government notified the scheme on September 29, 2024, with an outlay of ₹10,900 crore for two years. It came into effect on October 1, 2024. The scheme aims to accelerate EV adoption, expand charging infrastructure and strengthen domestic EV manufacturing.
Why The Deadline Moved
On August 8, 2025, the ministry extended the scheme from March 2026 to March 2028 without increasing its funding at the time. Heavy Industries Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy said the additional time was needed for electric trucks, electric buses and vehicle testing agencies, each of which faced “specific challenges”.
