PlayStation Fans Begin Week-Long Boycott Over End Of Physical Games

It’s been nearly two months since Sony announced that the future of PlayStation is going to be all-digital, sparking a furor amongst the gaming community. The company’s social media announcements have usually received hundreds of messages disapproving of the move to phase out discs, but the most serious pushback is set to kick off this week with gamers being asked to participate in a weeklong blackout.

The effort is being spearheaded by DoesItPlay, which is dedicated to game preservation by “testing physical video games and hardware completely offline to inform you about issues that can make them unusable now and in the future.” The organization is asking PlayStation gamers to avoid using their consoles between August 23 to August 30, including not logging in, not playing any games, and not buying anything from its digital store.
