PayU Launches Accessible Checkout For Visually Impaired Users

PayU has launched an accessibility-focused payments checkout for blind and visually impaired users, adding screen-reader optimisation, adjustable interface settings and visual accessibility features to its payment gateway.

Announced on August 12, the company said the checkout is designed to help users with visual and cognitive accessibility needs complete online payments more independently. PayU also said merchants using its payment gateway can enable the accessibility features without changing their existing integrations.

The launch comes after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued guidelines in October 2024 asking banks and authorised non-bank payment providers to review their payment systems and devices for accessibility to persons with disabilities. The RBI said payment systems should be modified where necessary to make them easier for persons with disabilities to access and use.
