OpenAI’s first influencer brand trip has drawn some heavy criticism after the company hosted creators at Wildflower Farms, a luxury resort in the Hudson Valley in New York. The event was called “Summer Club.” The two-day gathering included private cabins, farm-to-table meals, beekeeping, painting workshops, and sessions on how to use OpenAI products, including ChatGPT Work.

The backlash was about the difference between the fancy venue and the ongoing public debate about AI. People are saying that OpenAI used a nice lifestyle scene to market AI, all this at a time when the technology’s environmental costs, energy use, water use, and effects on work are pretty visible to everyone.
