OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna, Halves API Prices
OpenAI has introduced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, expanding the GPT-6 family shortly after the launch of its flagship GPT-6 Astra. But unlike a release built primarily around pushing benchmark scores higher, Sol and Luna make the economics of using advanced AI a central part of the pitch.
OpenAI has cut API prices for both models by 50% compared with the promotional pricing of their GPT-5.6 predecessors.
GPT-6 Sol costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, down from $4 and $20 respectively for GPT-5.6 Sol.
GPT-6 Luna goes considerably lower. Input tokens cost $0.10 per million, compared with $0.20 previously, while output pricing falls from $1.20 to $0.50 per million tokens.
As AI moves from occasional prompts to agents that can work across applications, write code and carry out longer tasks, the cost of keeping those systems running becomes harder for enterprises to ignore.
