OpenAI Images 2.6 Brings GIF Creation and 50% Faster Generation

OpenAI has launched Images 2.6, its latest image-generation update, on November 4, 2026.

Available across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API, the release brings faster image generation, animated GIF creation, more precise editing, and additional controls for developers.

According to OpenAI, Images 2.6 generates images 50% faster than before while improving consistency across successive edits.

The launch comes as the company reports that users are creating approximately 4 billion images every week across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API, equivalent to more than half a billion images daily.

The scale highlights how image generation is becoming a regular part of digital content creation rather than an occasional experimental activity.
