Onimusha: Way of the Sword is easily the best entry in the samurai demon-hunting franchise, delivering an immersive, cinematic, and epic experience in both its highly detailed cutscenes and combat encounters. It has a few tedious and repetitive segments, particularly due to the low difficulty of many enemy encounters and repeated boss fights; however, those downsides fail to overshadow any stronger aspects of the game.

Pros

  • +Addictive combat
  • +Exceptional parry and sword-clash animations
  • +Most story cutscenes are beautiful, but...
  • +Fantastic sound design
  • +Good enemy variety
  • +Hard mode difficulty for New Game Plus
  • +Strong character development

Cons

  • -Many enemy encounters are too easy
  • -Too many repeated boss battles
  • -... switching back to in-game dialogue moments is jarring
  • -Only one primary weapon
