Nvidia donated a GB300 supercomputer to the Navy, to teach officers AI’s limits
The Nvidia chip at the centre of America’s export fight with China has a new home: a classroom in Monterey. The Naval Postgraduate School has stood up a DGX GB300 AI supercomputer, the first in the US military, Nextgov reported.
The machine runs on Nvidia’s Blackwell Ultra generation, the same line the US forbids selling to Chinese firms. This one Nvidia gave away, donating it to the school’s foundation. Under the hood sit 36 Grace CPUs and 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs, wired to crunch work in parallel.
The school will use it to train students in weather and ocean modelling, operations research, cybersecurity, and resilience planning. It is not a data centre, the school said, but a single integrated system that slots into existing power and water. Firms including Vertiv, DDN, and VAST Data helped stand it up.
