Nintendo Finally Gives the Original Switch a Faster, Local eShop

Nintendo has updated the Switch eShop with system update 22.5.0, introducing a long-overdue app-like experience that more closely mimics the Switch 2 eStore.

The update replaces the old browser‑based front end with a new native client. Users now see a darker store layout with the Basic Dark theme, while banners, carousels, and product pages feature cleaner typography and artwork, helping reduce clutter during browsing.

There's a security add-on as well. Primary users and parents can now set a PIN requirement before the eShop opens and lock the use of saved payment methods behind the same verification, giving tighter control over purchases on a shared console.

The update further tweaks media playback so that trailers and other full‑screen videos now support 10‑second skips backward and forward using the ZL and ZR buttons.
