Next-Generation Siri Will Be an App That Auto-Deletes Chat History
Apple is working on a "ChatGPT-like" Siri app with a privacy feature that automatically deletes chats, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. The long-awaited revamped Siri experience is purportedly a standalone app with a chat interface, where users interact through text or voice and see a chronological log of previous conversations.
The app's auto-delete feature aims to protect users' privacy by letting them choose how much information Siri "remembers" from previous conversations. Users can tell Siri to keep their messages for 30 days, one year, or forever. Some reports also indicate that users may choose whether new chats start fresh or pick up from earlier threads.
The Siri app is part of Apple's larger plan to improve its on-device and cloud-based AI tools. It's expected to debut with iOS 27 this fall, but with the assistant's many delays, we're a tad skeptical.
