Netflix Has Hundreds of Secret Genre Categories. Here's How to Access Them All

Netflix built an extensive genre taxonomy for its catalog: hundreds of specific categories covering everything from Brazilian crime drama to 1970s sci-fi to independent films shot in black and white. What it didn't build was a way for us to easily navigate that taxonomy.

The home screen and search function both rely on a recommendation system that prioritizes what's popular or what Netflix predicts you'll like, meaning the deeper categories rarely appear unless you deliberately go looking for them. The trick is a URL shortcut that's been quietly shared by Netflix power users for years and still works today.

The solution? A slew of secret Netflix codes that can help you sift through everything Netflix has to offer.
