Musk Plans SpaceXSI Rebrand After Trump’s AI Order
Elon Musk is apparently ready to retire “AI” from one of his companies’ names, just months after putting it there.
On Oct. 4, Musk said SpaceX’s artificial intelligence division, SpaceXAI, would be renamed SpaceXSI. Asked directly on X if the division would make the swap, Musk replied, “Yes, we will make that change.” In subsequent posts, he added, “No more AI,” called the shift “better,” and proclaimed, “SpaceX is a super intelligence company.”
The push from Washington
The proposed rebrand follows President Donald Trump’s Sept. 29 executive order directing executive branch agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official communications and other non-statutory documents, where permitted by law. The order does not require private companies to rename their products or agencies to rewrite existing contracts and historical documents.
