Pretty much all of our personal data is online at this point. Whether it’s saved credit cards or photos in your social media profiles, your private life is easily accessible — including to hackers.
That’s one reason why the vast majority of Americans have been targeted by scams or cyberattacks, according a new study by Consumer Reports, Aspen Digital and the Global Cyber Alliance.
The report found 9 in 10 Americans have faced at least one digital scam or cyberattack. “That’s not a statistic, that’s almost everyone we serve,” Consumer Reports CEO Phil Radford said in a statement. “AI is making fraud faster, cheaper and more personal, and no one can outsmart that alone. Companies need to be held accountable. Governments need real guardrails. That’s the bar we’re setting – for ourselves and for them.”
