Here’s a philosophical proposition for you - there is a duality in human nature which can easily be exploited, but only if you are cynical enough to do it.
Let me explain. On the one hand, humans are brilliant creatures: we are philosophers, scientists, architects, and engineers. We’ve mapped the planet, and have built suspension bridges, skyscrapers, and cathedrals; we’ve split the atom, uncovered the mysteries of space/time, and defied gravity with aeroplanes and rockets; we’ve written epic poems and dramas, and we can sing, dance, paint, and make beautiful music. Not bad for an ape that, aeons ago, once picked up a flint and saw a weapon – or a tool.
But on the other, we’re also the same primitive, pleasure-seeking primates we’ve always been. Give us a button that promises free candy, and most of us will press it. And we’ll keep pressing it until we realise it...
