AI’s (un)holy trinity of Amodei, Altman, and Musk has called for a slowing down of the pace of innovation the sector that they lead, although quite whose permission they’re looking for to put this into practice is perhaps less clear than the PR spin to be had from being seen to be responsible at a time when Armageddon warnings are escalating.
It’s only a few months since Anthropic’s Mythos frontier model tech was in the news as it supposedly broke free of its in-house constraints and set off on its own rampage. That resulted in a fair bit of negative publicity and did nothing to improve the firm’s standing among Trump 2.0, where it’s still deemed to be a threat to national security due to its refusal to bend the knee to demands to remove ethical clauses from its contract terms.
