Microsoft is killing its AI mascot, ten months after building it
The cull lands on Tuesday. Group Chat, Podcasts, Copilot Labs and consumer Deep Research all retire that day, according to Microsoft’s own support page.
Mico goes at the same time, out of the voice experience and into Learn Live as a tutor.
The whole thing sits inside a bigger change. Microsoft has started merging its consumer Copilot app with the Microsoft 365 one, and both now carry the same name.
Ten months from launch to demotion
Mico arrived in October 2025 as part of the Copilot Fall Release. The name is a contraction of Microsoft Copilot.
The company described it as expressive, customisable and warm. It would listen, react, and change colour to reflect your interactions.
Now it teaches. Microsoft says Learn is where the character has the most room to grow, with tutoring sessions, Engadget reported.
