Microsoft Is Finally Tackling One of the Biggest Reasons Behind the BSOD
A new Windows capability will automatically roll back faulty drivers installed through Windows Update. Called Cloud‑Initiated Driver Recovery (CIDR), it helps keep PCs stable when a bad driver causes issues, crashes, or other serious problems. This change builds on the existing Windows Update pipeline instead of creating a separate app or tool, as reported by PCWorld.
Through CIDR, Microsoft marks a driver as problematic after internal testing or when user reports indicate crash spikes and instability on specific hardware. When this happens, Windows Update can remove the flawed version from affected machines and restore a previously stable driver from Microsoft's catalog.
If the catalog does not contain a known stable version for that device, the automatic rollback will not occur, and the system will remain on the current flawed driver.
This applies only to drivers distributed by Windows Update. Drivers that users install manually from OEM or vendor websites remain...
