Microsoft is cutting support for some older OneDrive systems soon - here's what you need to know

Windows 10 21H2 and earlier is losing support for all OneDrive updates
22H2 will still get feature and security updates until October 2028
Affected users are being urged to upgrade to Windows 11

Microsoft has announced it will end OneDrive sync app updates on Windows 10 version 21H2 and earlier starting August 15, 2026.

Besides no longer offering new features, affected devices will also be incompatible with new bug fixes and security updates, marking the official end of OneDrive on those devices.

The app will continue to function after losing update support, but system changes and emerging bugs could render it unfixable with time.

From the August 2026 deadline onward, users may experience reduced functionality, compatibility problems and security risks, with the company instead pushing Windows 11 as a viable alternative to keep OneDrive functioning as expected.
