Meta Withdraws Instagram AI Image Feature After Privacy Concerns

Meta has withdrawn a newly launched artificial intelligence feature on Instagram that allowed users to generate AI images using content from public Instagram accounts, following criticism over privacy and user consent.

The feature was part of Muse Image, an AI image generation tool developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. It enabled users to create AI-generated images by referencing public Instagram profiles through simple @mentions, allowing the model to use publicly available images as creative inputs.

However, the feature quickly drew criticism after users raised concerns that their public photos could be used without their knowledge. As per reports, creator communities, privacy advocates, and talent agencies questioned whether the feature provided sufficient transparency and meaningful consent before allowing AI-generated content based on public profiles.

In response, Meta announced that it has removed the feature.
