Meta Puts AI Agents Into The WhatsApp Business Setup Layer
Meta has introduced WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, allowing AI coding agents to handle parts of WhatsApp Business setup, configuration, and testing. The move points to a broader shift in how enterprises may interact with platform infrastructure.
For businesses using WhatsApp as a customer channel, getting the messaging layer running can involve more than writing code. Developers have to configure business accounts, connect phone numbers, register API access, create message templates, and set up webhooks. Much of that work sits across different tools and configuration screens.
Meta is now putting part of that process in the hands of AI agents. The company has introduced WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, a Model Context Protocol server that connects AI coding agents to the WhatsApp Business Platform. Meta's developer documentation lists the tool as a way for agents to set up and manage parts of WhatsApp Business, including accounts, phone numbers, templates, and testing.
