Meta Is Testing Community Notes In Latin America. Fact Checkers Are Worried.
The company is suggesting that its work with traditional fact checkers could come to an end.

Meta is beginning its international expansion of Community Notes. The company said it is starting to test the crowd-sourced fact checks in 16 countries in Latin America more than a year after it rolled out the program stateside and ended its partnership with US-based fact checking organizations.
The company says it plans to take a similar approach with its initial tests in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The platform is starting to onboard contributors to who, if approved, will be able to write notes that add "additional context" to posts on Facebook, Instagram and Threads. During the testing phase, contributors' notes will not be surfaced to users and "there will be no changes to third-party fact checking," Meta says...
