Programmable bench power supplies are incredibly useful, but they also tend to be expensive. For electronics enthusiasts with perfectly capable manual power supplies, it may not be worth the cost of a replacement to get a few extra modern features. But now, there is another option. The open source PSU-EXT project can turn any bench power supply into a programmable supply without even cracking its case open.

PSU-EXT is an external control and measurement system that sits inline between a conventional bench power supply and the device being powered. It continuously measures output voltage and current, switches the output through an onboard relay, and exposes those measurements through a browser-based interface. This gives users remote output control, live dashboards, historical charts, configurable protection limits, timers, triggers, and diagnostic tools.
