Some details about AMD's next-generation Threadripper CPUs have leaked. Codenamed "Mustang Peak," the new chips will use a new TR6 socket, meaning existing Threadripper 7000 and 9000 owners on the TR5 platform won't be able to use them as a drop-in upgrade. The leak also confirms the chips will be built on TSMC's 2nm process and support PCIe Gen 6.

AMD's Threadripper CPUs have always existed in an intriguing segment of its product stack. They offer raw performance somewhere between consumer Ryzen and Epyc server chips, giving prosumers and HEDT fans some real muscle, although prices have risen dramatically in recent generations. The Threadripper 10000 generation is likely to do the same again, both in performance and pricing.

This new leak comes from AMD's own technical documentation portal and reveals information on chip IDs, process technology, and socket support.
