Jimmy Paputto's M.2 M HAT for the Raspberry Pi 5 Does One Job, and Does It Well
Polish hardware startup Jimmy Paputto has opened a modest crowdfunding campaign for the M.2 M HAT, a Hardware Attached on Top (HAT) add-on for the Raspberry Pi 5 family of single-board computers that adds high-speed storage or PCI Express accelerators underneath the board rather than on top — keeping the general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins free while improving cooling airflow.
"Most of what we make starts the same way: a part we needed ourselves and couldn't find done the way we wanted," explains Jimmy Paputto's Dariusz Domański by way of background to the company, which specializes in robotics powered by the Raspberry Pi and NVIDIA's Jetson computer-on-module family. "The M.2 M-Key HAT is one of those parts. We run test clusters and CI [Continuous Integration] for our GNSS [Global Navigation Satellite System] HAT software, and we wanted fast NVMe [Non-Volatile Memory Express] storage on the [Raspberry] Pi 5 without giving up...
