Internships Are Earned, Not Bought: How I Learned That Lesson
A few months ago, I almost became the kind of student who believed opportunities could be purchased.
Like many students, I saw programs marketed as internships. Some asked for payments. Some promised certificates. Some promised experience.
At the time, it sounded reasonable.
Today, I see things differently.
Not because someone told me to.
Because my own experiences taught me a different lesson.
The Question That Changed My Thinking
I started asking myself a simple question:
If a company is hiring an intern, what is it actually looking for?
A certificate?
A payment?
Or someone who can contribute?
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that internships exist because organizations need work to be done.
The intern may still be learning, but the organization expects effort, ownership, and results.
That is very different from a training program.
