Intel and Fortinet partner to develop next-generation security processor

Intel and Fortinet have announced a strategic collaboration to develop Fortinet Security Processor 6 (SP6), combining Intel’s semiconductor design and manufacturing capabilities with Fortinet’s application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology for cybersecurity products.

The partnership expands the companies’ existing relationship and is aimed at accelerating the development of Fortinet’s next-generation security processor while strengthening the resilience and diversification of its global semiconductor supply chain.

According to the companies, the collaboration will integrate Intel’s semiconductor design, packaging and manufacturing capabilities with Fortinet’s purpose-built security processor architecture to support higher-performance cybersecurity workloads and AI-enabled security services.

The companies also said they plan to explore additional collaboration in semiconductor technology and manufacturing to support Fortinet’s long-term ASIC roadmap.

“This collaboration demonstrates how Intel’s semiconductor leadership and advanced design, packaging, and manufacturing capabilities can help cybersecurity leaders like Fortinet accelerate the development of critical security technologies,” said Lip-Bu Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Intel.
