India Unveils ‘Varya’: A Culturally Aware, Ultra-Affordable Video AI Model
Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence startup Avataar.ai has officially launched “Varya,” marking a major milestone as India’s first indigenous distilled video generative AI model. Developed with strategic backing from the government’s IndiaAI Mission, Varya represents a significant step forward in building sovereign technological capabilities. The model is specifically designed to address two of the largest hurdles currently facing enterprise AI adoption: the exorbitant computing costs of video generation and the lack of localized cultural context in Western models.
Varya achieves its remarkable efficiency through a cutting-edge model distillation technique. While standard video-generation models typically require around 50 complex computational steps to render a single clip, Avataar.ai’s architecture compresses this sequence down to just four steps. This optimization allows the model to process video data up to ten times faster than conventional platforms.
