India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 Rolled Out With ₹1.27 Lakh Crore Outlay to Expand Domestic Chip Ecosystem
The Indian government has officially introduced the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0 with a dedicated budget of ₹1,27,500 crore, signaling a major step forward in building a robust domestic microelectronics ecosystem. Speaking at the CII Conference on Advancing Atmanirbharta in Semiconductor Design and Manufacturing, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S Krishnan highlighted 2026 as a landmark year for the country’s semiconductor ambitions.
Commercial Production and Infrastructure Expansion
Under the initial phase of the mission, multiple projects have already transitioned into active operations. Commercial production has begun at Micron’s assembly facility and Tata’s plant in Sanand, alongside CG Power’s unit. Two additional facilities are slated to become operational before the end of the year, adding to a pipeline of 12 previously approved projects.
Building on this base, ISM 2.0 plans to establish four to five additional fabrication units—targeting logic, memory, display, and compound semiconductors—alongside expanded Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly...
