India Reportedly Delays Government Use of OpenAI, Anthropic Cybersecurity Models
A department under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has directed central government ministries to refrain, for now, from deploying cybersecurity-related AI models built by OpenAI and Anthropic, according to an exclusive report by ThePrint.
The advisory follows meetings in which representatives of the two companies approached officials across several ministries to pitch the use of their models for cybersecurity and related functions, it reported, citing a source. The exact number of ministries approached and the seniority of the officials involved could not be confirmed, per the report.
According to the report, the department circulated an office memorandum instructing ministries not to put the models into operational use prematurely. A source told the publication that the memorandum does not amount to a permanent ban but the objection is about the timing of deployment rather than the technology itself.
