India Joins ITU AI Pilot to Bridge Global South AI Gap
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said on Friday that the real yardstick for artificial intelligence is not how large its models are or how advanced its algorithms look, but how many human lives it makes better.
Speaking at the opening of the “AI for Good Lab Workshop: From Strategy to Impact” at India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, Scindia described the Lab’s path from Geneva to New Delhi as a reflection of the path AI itself must take: moving from global dialogue to local solutions, from technical promise to real-world benefit, and from strategy to scale. He said skills, compute, data, institutions and connectivity are what close the distance between AI ambition and AI impact. The workshop was jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
