IBM Sovereign Core arrives as enterprises struggle to prove control over their own data
IBM announced the general availability of IBM Sovereign Core at Think 2026 this week - a software platform designed to help organizations build and operate AI-ready sovereign environments and verify their control across hybrid infrastructure.
The timing is not surprising, given that data sovereignty has been climbing the enterprise agenda for several years. However, the combination of macro-economic disruption and advancements in AI, which requires data to move across organizations and boundaries, is increasingly causing headaches for buyers that need to prove where their data sits, how it’s used, and who is using it. As Dinesh Nirmal, SVP of IBM Software, put it in the announcement:
AI has made sovereignty a runtime requirement, not a policy statement.
We at diginomica have been increasingly hearing from technology leaders that the topic is shifting up their agenda and have seen first-hand evidence of how acute the underlying problem has become.
