I’ll give it to TDM: the Neo is a fun idea, and the company has really tried in the execution of it, with some neat in-box extras. Unfortunately, it really doesn’t work: the Neo sounds pretty awful however you use the product, lacking bass in speaker mode and drowning in mud as headphones. The design also leaves a lot to be desired: they’re fine on-ear headphones, but as speakers they don’t sit flat on a table and have a gaping upwards-facing USB port which seems like a dirt magnet. Perhaps we wait, respectfully, for version 2.0.

Reasons to buy

  • +Fantastic battery life
  • +Neat in-box extras
  • +Decent fit in headphone mode

Reasons to avoid

  • -Sound isn't good (in either use-case)
  • -Unstable in speaker format
  • -Key features locked if you don’t create an account
