I ran local LLMs on GMKtec's EVO-X3 mini PC — but it's not plug-and-play
High end hardware specification instantly peaks the interest around the EVO-X3 especially for local AI. It features the AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395, part of the Strix Halo family, 128GB unified memory, Radeon graphics and a 50-TOPS NPU. As the benchmarks highlighted the CPU, graphics and offline model performance was superb. It's well beyond what you would usually expect for this size of machine, but it comes at a price. There's limited connectivity and still developing bundled software. Even still, the EVO-X3 is impressive and shows the full potential of local AI.
Pros
- +Exceptional AI performance
- +Huge unified memory
- +Excellent quiet cooling
Cons
- -Extremely high price
- -Limited port selection
- -Complex software setup
