Modern display technology is fantastic. LCDs, OLEDs, E Ink screens — they’re all great. At least if you’re prioritizing visual fidelity. But what if that isn’t your priority? What if you want tactility or just something more visually interesting? Then you’ll want to see (or touch) soiboi soft’s wonderful Air Powered Dot Display.
These displays are unique and surprisingly practical. They rely on pneumatics (vacuum, specifically) and are able to produce all kinds of shapes by creating debossed shapes on flexible “screens.” A few months ago, soiboi soft demonstrated the concept with a kind of soft seven-segment display. This new Air Powered Dot Display is similar, but even more versatile. It has a matrix of dots that are like physical pixels, allowing for rendering that is both visual and tactile.
