I Built a Tools Directory Instead of Another SaaS, and It Became My Top Project

I ship a lot of small things. Most of them are SaaS products with a payment flow, a database, and a landing page promising the thing will change how you work. This one isn't that. It's a directory. Just over 300 curated tools across 20+ categories, plus a blog where I write about the process. It's called justship.now, and it's currently the project I'd point a stranger to first if they wanted to know what I actually do.

That's a strange thing to admit as a developer. Directories are not exciting. Nobody screenshots a directory for their portfolio the way they screenshot a slick dashboard. But I want to walk through why I built it, why I think curation beats crowdsourcing for this specific job, and why it earned the top spot on my own site over a product I'd already spent months on.
