The data looked great. Pages ranking across hundreds of queries. Impressions climbing week over week. The kind of GSC dashboard you'd screenshot and feel good about for about thirty seconds before scrolling right.

Clicks: four. Over three months.

I sat with that report for a while. The content was accurate. The keywords were in the right places. The structure followed every guideline I'd ever trusted. By any standard checklist, these pages should have been pulling traffic.

They weren't - and the reason had nothing to do with the writing. It had to do with what happened before the writing. I had built those pages around what I thought readers wanted, not around what Google and real searchers had already decided they expected to find.
