The world is awash with uncertainty. But what does that mean for supply chain leaders?

We know the causes underlying much of the volatility and ambiguity: from geopolitical turmoil, trade disputes and erratic markets. But how does that show up in supply chains and what’s its impact on leaders? And more importantly, what are the most effective ways to respond?

In speaking with leaders at companies in high tech and manufacturing, a few themes repeatedly surfaced.

What does uncertainty mean for supply chain leaders?

To some supply chain leaders, the key impact of uncertainty is unpredictability, and the consequent lack of clarity for leadership and managers. Another explained that uncertainty was most evident and difficult when it was multidimensional. For example, on the demand side with shifts in consumer preferences and market needs, and on the supply side with unpredictable constraints and shortages.
