Harness Unscripted - AI agents may be cool, but firms aren’t taking humans out of the loop
While AI agents help software engineers produce code more quickly, this increase in velocity doesn’t guarantee high-quality output. At a panel session at the recent Harness Unscripted event in London, engineering leaders discussed how DevSecOps pipelines and platforms must evolve as AI takes on a greater role in software development, with humans remaining very much in the loop.
From coding to testing and onto deployment, the experts suggested that human oversight matters. Platform engineers should focus on three areas as they integrate agents into the development process: reducing risk, establishing accountability, and managing bottlenecks.
Sean Hamilton-Andrews, Director of Platform Engineering for Hosting and Service Platforms at insurance firm Aviva, encouraged professionals to build trust into DevSecOps pipelines by giving contextual information to agents, such as providing frameworks and defining what good looks like:
