Google's September Pixel Update Is Forcing Some Users to Factory-Reset Their Phones
Some Pixel users have been facing lock screen issues ever since they installed the September 2026 update. According to a handful of reports, their phones will no longer accept their chosen PINs or unlock patterns.
Thanks to the bug, patterns reset after one or two dots, so users are functionally unable to complete the pattern. Others say the lock screen treats the first digit of a PIN as a full entry and immediately responds with an incorrect pin notice. This means users' phones are locked down even when users know the correct code.
The issue seems to affect a range of Pixel models: Owners of the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 8a, and Pixel 8 Pro have complained about it, and other reports mention devices across both new and older Pixel lines.
