Google's AI Studio Can Now Vibe Code Custom Native Android Apps

Google's AI Studio now lets users build native Android apps within minutes, all from their web browser—no Android Studio required. The company announced the update at this week's Google I/O 2026, and pre-registration is currently open.

AI Studio uses Kotlin and Jetpack Compose to create full app projects from text or speech prompts. Users only need to describe an app idea for AI Studio to generate the app; after that, they can refine the results via chat or direct code edits.

You might be wondering how it's possible to develop an app without testing it on an emulator. AI Studio now also includes an integrated Android emulator in the browser, so users can run and test their apps without installing Android Studio or configuring a local environment.
