Google to Count Android Device Backups Towards Account Storage, Users Get More Control
Google is reportedly rolling out a change that will alter how Android device backups are handled within Google Account storage. Under the updated policy, data stored as part of Android backups will begin counting towards users’ available Google Account storage quota, potentially affecting those who rely on Google’s free storage allocation.
The company has reportedly started notifying existing Android users about the upcoming change through emails. According to the notifications, users are being given around 45 days before the revised storage rules take effect on their accounts. The advance notice is intended to give users enough time to review their storage usage and make adjustments if required.
