Google reportedly nears $1bn-plus nuclear power deal with Constellation
Alphabet’s Google is close to an agreement to buy nuclear power from Constellation Energy, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
Under the multi-year deal, Google would pay Constellation $1bn or more, according to people familiar with the talks.
Bloomberg said an announcement may come this week. Yet, Constellation declined to comment to Reuters.
Constellation runs more US nuclear reactors than any other company. Bloomberg did not say which of its plants would supply Google or how much electricity the deal would cover.
Google has been adding nuclear power to supply its data centres all year. Last month, it agreed to help pay for upgrades at two Georgia Power nuclear plants, Vogtle and Hatch, which could add about 96 megawatts of capacity.
That deal still needs approval from Georgia’s utility regulator, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
