Google Quietly Retires Pixel Studio App
Google has started shutting down its Pixel Studio app and directing users to the Gemini app for AI image creation. The latest Pixel Studio update produces a single prominent "Open Gemini" button, which either opens the Gemini app or takes users to the Play Store to install it.
Pixel Studio launched alongside newer Pixel phones and offered prompt‑based AI image generation, custom stickers, and quick edits for screenshots and photos. As a Pixel user, I never found it particularly useful; online, many people report using the tool for more casual tasks, like AI zoom and generating memes.
Google's June Pixel Studio update completely blocked new image generation in the app. Existing Pixel Studio creations remain accessible for now; users can still view, share, and export their old projects, but they cannot start new ones.
